How To Record Digital TV

The UK is going digital. The way we receive and watch TV is changing. Hundreds of new channels are now available – many of them free to watch thanks to Freeview – and there is sure to be something you want to watch.

Unless you have a separate set top box, you can’t use your video recorder to tape digital TV, and even then, you can’t tape one channel while you watch another.

You’ll need to buy a new machine – a hard drive recorder, or a PVR, or a digital DVD recorder.

But don’t worry – we’re here to help. We’re here to explain what you need to do to take advantage of all these great new channels. We’re here to explain all the jargon: Hard Drive Recorders, Digital DVD Recorders, PVRs, Hard Disc Recorders, SCART, Sky + and more in a way that’s simple and easy to understand.

Hard Drive Recorders have a ‘hard disc’ inside them – just like your computer does – and your favourite TV programmes are recorded onto and stored on this hard disc. Even the most basic, entry level hard drive recorders will let you store a whacking 80 hours of recorded television on them. A Hard Drive Recorder is probably the best, simplest answer to recording digital TV.
